Microwave Repair in Alta Sierra, CA
A microwave that hums but does not heat, sparks inside the cavity, or has an unresponsive keypad usually points to a specific internal fault. NextGen Appliance Repair services countertop, over the range, and built in microwaves throughout Alta Sierra, CA, working on magnetron failures, door switch issues, and control board malfunctions.
Microwaves store high voltage even when unplugged, which makes internal diagnosis a task for a trained technician rather than a do it yourself project. A unit that runs but does not heat food is frequently traced to a failed magnetron, a blown high voltage diode, or a faulty high voltage capacitor. Sparking inside the cavity is often caused by a damaged waveguide cover, though it can also point to a more serious internal fault that needs immediate attention.
Our technicians follow proper discharge and safety procedures before opening any microwave for inspection, given the high voltage components involved. After confirming the fault through direct testing, we replace the specific failed component rather than the entire unit whenever a repair is practical and cost effective. Door switch and interlock issues, which commonly cause a unit to stop mid cycle or not start at all, are also a frequent and straightforward fix.

Microwave Repair Questions Answered
Why does my microwave run but not heat food?
A failed magnetron, high voltage diode, or capacitor is the usual cause, and a technician can test each component safely to identify the fault.
Is sparking inside the microwave dangerous?
It can be. Sparking often comes from a damaged waveguide cover, but it should be checked promptly rather than continuing to use the unit.
Why does my microwave stop mid cycle?
A faulty door switch or interlock mechanism commonly causes this, and it is typically one of the more straightforward repairs to complete.
